About the Journal:

AMJ (Advanced Medical Journal) is a peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal of the Kurdistan Higher Council of Medical Specialties(KHCMS ). It welcomes contributions to new medical subjects from all parts of the world. Articles on clinical, basic scientific, or laboratory investigations of relevance to all fields of medicine and dentistry come within the scope of its publication. Original articles, case reports, brief communications, and letters to the editor are all considered. Submitted material is received for evaluation and editing on the understanding that it has neither been published previously nor will (if accepted) be submitted for publication elsewhere.

Journal History:

AMJ  is the continuation of JKBMS (Journal of Kurdistan Board of Medical Specialties)  which was started in 2015 to publish its first volume as a print copy with a print ISSN(2410-1605) until 2022 the name has been changed to AMJ  which is now an online journal with an online ISSN:2957-3580, print ISSN: 2958-8979 and DOI(https://doi.org/10.56056/amj) with an updated Editorial board. It was biannually published until the end of 2023, then after because of the large number of submitted articles for publication in the journal it was decided to be published quarterly.

Aims and scope :

AMJ aims to become a globally recognized and reputable journal, listed among esteemed publications. It aims to be a leading platform that scopes high-quality research, fosters academic ethics, and makes a significant impact through the generation of influential citations. Our vision is to provide researchers with a trusted publication venue that promotes academic excellence,  innovation and contributes significantly to the advancement of medicine and society

Editorial Policies:

AMJ is committed to upholding rigorous editorial policies to ensure the quality, integrity, and impact of the research we publish. Our policies are designed to maintain the highest standards of scholarly publishing and provide a fair and transparent review process for authors.

Journal policies :

AMJ is requesting the authors to submit articles that have not been published or released elsewhere before they are published in the AMJ and should be assigned in the submission section during submission to AMJ. Authors should not release the details of their findings to the media before their work is peer-reviewed and published.

Review Process:

The editorial office of AMJ and the subject editors check each submitted manuscript for general quality, suitability, and whether it conforms to the journal’s guidelines. We are dedicated to maintaining a high standard of quality scientific publications that have both local and global impacts. To ensure the integrity of our journal, all submissions undergo a rigorous and thorough peer review first step internal evaluation by the editorial office team including the plagiarism and similarity check, manuscripts that fall within the defined scope of the journal will be considered for review, and submissions outside the scope will not be processed for review.

Similarity check and plagiarism:

The Editorial Board of AMJ thoroughly examines each manuscript for any indication of plagiarism using the Plagiarism Checker (Turnitin). If plagiarism is detected, whether by the editor or peer reviewer at any stage of the publication process, we will promptly bring it to the attention of the author(s). In such cases, we will request the author(s) to either rewrite the text, accurately quote the source, or provide proper citation. Failure to address plagiarism concerns adequately may result in the rejection of the manuscript. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing practices. By actively screening for plagiarism, we strive to maintain the credibility and quality of the research published in AMJ. For more details see the Journal Workflow Chart.

Peer Review Process:

Manuscripts that fall within the defined scope of the journal will be considered for an external double-blind peer review. All submitted manuscripts that passed the internal evaluation undergo a thorough and impartial double-blind peer review process by at least two or three external reviewers. Our team of worldwide highly expert reviewers in all disciplines of medicine will evaluate the scientific merit, methodology, originality, and significance of the research. Our reviewer database is constantly being updated to ensure the reviewer profile matches that of the topic being discussed in the manuscript. The double-blind review process ensures confidentiality and impartiality, as the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept anonymous.Manuscripts are evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Is the work original: does the study add to our field, does it fit our mission statements, and will it be of interest to our readership?
  • Is the study methodologically sound: are the methods clear and appropriate, could the work be reproduced by others, is the sample size sufficient?
  • Does the study follow appropriate ethical guidelines?
  • Are results clearly presented and do they support the conclusions: are the results clear and well illustrated, do they make sense?
  • Does the manuscript correctly reference previous relevant work: are the references relevant, up to date, and correct?
  • Is the manuscript aimed at the journal's target readership?

The reviewers will respond within two weeks and according to their notes, and suggestions, the final decision will be made about any corrections, acceptance, or rejection by the Editorial board, and the chief editor and the author(s) will be informed about the result, and since AMJ is an online journal using OJS, the author (s) can track the manuscript at any stage of the process. 

Confidentiality :

The AMJ editorial Board and publication staff keep all information about the submitted manuscript confidential and limited to those involved in the evaluation, review, and publication process since the revision process is double-blind. 

Copyright :

The copyright of any article published in AMJ is retained by the author(s) in agreement with the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial ShareAlike License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). The author (s) need to grant AMJ a license to publish the article and identify the journal as the original publisher. Author(s) can grant any third party the right to use the article freely subject to the maintenance of its integrity and the identification of its original authors, citation details, and the journal.

Ethical Considerations :

For prospective studies involving human investigations or animal experiments, authors are expected to have obtained the approval of regional, national, institutional, or independent Ethics Committees, in addition to obtaining the subject's consent to participate in the study.  All studies involving human experiments should be performed only in accordance with the ethical standards provided by the responsible committee of the institution and in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki for Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subject (revised in 2013). Studies related to animal experiments should follow the institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals. A relevant statement on ethics committee permission and ethical practices must be included in all research articles under the Subjects and Methods section. The journal will not consider any paper which is ethically unacceptable. The journal might ask for a copy of ethics approval and/or a copy of the consent form, if relevant.

Author Guidelines:

AMJ adheres to the highest ethical standards in publishing and expects authors to comply with ethical guidelines. We follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and expect authors to conduct research with integrity, avoid plagiarism, and obtain necessary ethical approvals for studies involving human subjects or animals.

Authorship :

Authorship must be based on having substantial contributions to conception and design, acquisition of data, analysis, and interpretation of data, drafting the article or revising it critically, and final approval of the version to be published. All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed in an acknowledgments section at the end of the article. All authors must give their signed consent for publication after reading and agreeing to the contents of the paper. The authors will be accountable for the accuracy and integrity of the paper according to the ICMJE guidelines. Please see the ICMJE Recommendations for authorship and contributorship.

Conflicts of Interest :

All conflicts of interest should be outlined in the manuscript. If the authors have no conflict of interest to report, this must be explicitly stated.

Indexing and Impact Factor:

AMJ  aims to be recognized as a reputable journal within the global scholarly community. We strive for indexing in renowned databases and directories, and our goal is to achieve a higher Impact Factor over time. AMJ is an open journal, which allows access to all published papers with no charges. The published papers of AMJ are archived in the following archive system:

Open Access Policy :

AMJ is an Open Access Journal. This means that all contents are freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution following the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author(s).

Corrections and Retractions: 

 In the event of errors or misconduct in published articles, AMJ will promptly investigate and take corrective measures, which may include issuing corrections, clarifications, or retractions, as deemed necessary.

Communication with Media :

Material submitted to the AMJ  must not be discussed with the media, except in the case of accepted contributions, which can be discussed with the media only once published. Authors that are contacted by the media about  AMJ  should ask that AMJ is credited in any news stories.

Article Processing Charge :

AMJ imposes a non-refundable article-processing charge of 250,000 Iraqi Dinars  for each submitted manuscript
